In many ways, it is simply more challenging to be a woman, especially when viewing the metamorphosis of the many different phases of life women go through. And while women live longer than men, women are more likely to have non-fatal illnesses. Osteoporosis, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes and depression are all more prevalent in women than men. A woman’s risk for heart disease increases when she reaches menopause, and breast cancer is always a concern.
Fortunately, women’s health issues have gained great attention in recent years. With growing incidence of female-specific diseases like breast cancer and osteoporosis, the scientific community seems to be more committed than ever before to conducting gender specific research for and prevention of diseases that afflict women. Of course, this is good news to all women who have taken a more hands-on attitude towards their own health like me. Women of today read and watch documentaries and reports on CNN and search the Internet for the latest health issues both for themselves and their families.
Meantime, what do women like us do? The best answer I can come up with is to have a healthy body and mind. With a high standard of healthy body and mind… damn osteoporosis, damn diabetes, damn depression, best effort… full speed ahead… live life passionately!
Women’s diseases today are on the steep incline. I am 58 and I can tell you I remember a time when heart disease in women was a non-issue. Today it is a number one killer, exceeding the risk in men. It is totally rubbish to say that the disease was undiagnosed back in the 1950’s and 60’s. There were very few women dying of a heart problem then so being undiagnosed is not true. There is a lot of foul play that is happening these days and while it is mostly done by men, it is not strictly a gender issue. Those people who are controlling and manipulative use foul means to dominate their partner. Such means create a lot of health problems, heart disease being one. You are welcomed to visit my website at http://annavictoria.net to know more. I have set it up to help inform people of what I have seen and experienced myself. It is absolutely free. The ill effects do not only affect women but children too and that is a real problem because it means the next generation grow up with problems. To be informed is to be in a position to live life more fully, no matter what you face in life. Sincerely Anna
a good chance exists that you’ve read naomi wolf’s important book, The Beauty Myth. May I suggest you go bazck into it to check how your observations mesh with the wealth of detail Naomi Wolf set down. Urging a healthy mind and a health body in the broadest terms is unfocussed. Define a healthy mind. Can you move towards achieving one by reading The Congressional Report, Dale Carnegie, Norman Vincent Peale, or merely by cultivating a carrefully-thought-out measure of scepticism when processing the daily bombardment of entreaties from advertisers and others keen to prise crisp dollar bills from your purse? Perhaps a good start is to identify the variety of glass ceilings in place above all women, then look around for ways to remove these ceilings. You’ll need help from intelligent women to even begin to do this. Women do not get a fair shake in the moneys they are paid for their work — both domestic and commercial — or in the unbending limitations placed upon their appearance and demeanour. As Naomi Wolf points out, business bosses are intent that women won’t advance another small step towards, well, call it overdue emancipation. This is a fact to make women fret, and place boulders on the path towards seeking that healthy mind. Women are the smarter gender, but the odds they face are gigantic.
